Mt. St. Helens part 1

For my birthday, we met Brian and family at Mt. St. Helens. We met for breakfast at IHOP, hiked the Ape Cave and a few other trails, had a picnic lunch, checked out Lake Merrill, and had a nice finale with a Mexican dinner in Woodland, WA. Great weather, great day. Kae is already adept at feeding herself at 15 months. Katie and Elise at the park entrance. The WA Hartsells deep at the end of Lower Ape Cave. Elise and Katie playing. Maui May/June 2010 final set

A view of Molokai across the golf course, Kahekili Beach north of Ka'anapali, snorkelers watching the honu (turtles), the evening cliffdiver, and finally the lineup of aircraft at OGG as we taxi for departure. It's always sad to leave, but there's always hope we'll return. Obviously we love it there.

Maui part 2

The Hula Grill, one of our favorite places to eat on Ka'anapali. Mac pondering whether he can finish the Hula Pie, which is not found at the Hula Grill, but at Kimo's in Lahaina. The 10 of us shared it, although Mac certainly ate his share. I think adding the word Hula in front of things tends to attract tourists and is a good marketing ploy in Hawaii. Maui (abovewater) May 2010 part 1

Sorry it's taken a bit to get the rest of these Maui pics up. These sets are the ones I took with my regular non-waterproof Canon. A few overviews of the Sheraton, the pools, and the beach. Mac juggling at the beach just north of us (Kahekili) and Mac and Katie near the Whaler's Village on Ka'anapali.

Maui Underwater part 3

Last group for this camera. I'll try to get to the other camera's pics in a few days. The best shot I could get of a honu (Hawaiian Sea Turtle). This guy's shell was about 3 feet wide by 4 feet long. Huge. He was close to shore and there were lots of people around (unfortunately) and lots of sand was stirred up that close in. Mac and Katie both got to see one. Maui Underwater part 2

Mac and Katie on their first snorkeling adventure in Kapalua Bay. They did great.....for about 15 minutes. Then I became the tugboat. They saw lots of cool stuff and enjoyed it, so they'll be primed to go again in the future. Still struggling with using all the gear. A random school of fish in the bay. The grounds and part of the pool at the Sheraton Ka'anapali. Some daring cliffdivers just offshore.

Maui Underwater part 1

I have two cameras worth of pics to load. I'll start with the underwater/beach camera first. Teresa on her first scuba dive. (In the pool for 30 min, then into the ocean for an hour....she did awesome!) My staff enjoying a meal on Napili Bay. Mac and Katie at Kapalua Bay. Katie looks like some sort of model in this pic. Scares me.

Maui March pt. 8

The final installment. Another later view of Maluaka Beach looking to the north. Big Beach in the very early morning light with Kaho'olawe in the background (uninhabited). Big Beach (you can see why) from a vantage point, and finally Wailea Beach, which is north of where we stayed. Lots of beach pics cause that's really the only place we were!

Maui March pt. 7

Two pics of the I'ao Valley and the I'ao Needle. Cloudy because it's nestled up in the West Maui mountains, even though it was pretty much clear by the beaches. The Makena Resort courtyard and garden. A view north and then south of Maluaka Beach in front of the Makena Resort.

Maui March pt. 6

OK, these are the photos I took with my regular camera. The first 3 are of San Francisco, an aerial of the City By The Bay, the old SFO tower, and apparently South San Fran. Then 2 shots of Napili Bay where we stayed. The first is an uncrowded late afternoon, and the second a more crowded late morning. You can see the clarity of the water and the reef just offshore.
