August/September Europe Trip - Rothenburg

We weren't planning on taking a trip to Europe this summer, cause usually prices (esp. airfare) are so high. Somehow, though, the airfares were under $600, and we found out that the nonstop flight from Portland to Frankfurt was being discontinued, so we said, hey let's do it. We figured taking the kids to Europe wasn't going to get any easier or less expensive, so we did it.

Since I spent so much of my youth living in Europe, I wanted my kids to have similar experiences that so enriched me. The kids actually did great on the flight, thanks to the nonstop and thanks also to the individual computer entertainment systems on the back of each seat. Kept them occupied for almost the whole flight. We landed in Frankfurt around 9am not quite into the jetlag yet. Kids slept some on the plane thanks to medication, and plus it was still only midnight Oregon time. The jetlag made itself known a few hours later.

Our first stop after getting our lovely rental car was the Real. Real is a chain similar to Walmart, used to be called Multicenter. We picked up some food, maps, etc. and headed on to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a medieval walled city.

Again, I make the disclaimer than absolutely NONE of my pics on any blog have been altered, photoshopped, or otherwise made to look better than they actually are. They have only be resized to make viewing/dl'ing easier. The first two pics are of the Marktplatz of Rothenburg, the main town square, with the Rathaus or town hall on the left. Then a pic of the town from the west wall, and Mac and Katie with a knight in shining armor.
