So, at doggie school graduation, our instructor brought her doggie ID book in and showed us what the Missy is. We had thought she was a German Shepherd mix. She is actually a Mudi (a sibling to the Croatian Shepherd, and a cousin of the German Shepherd). Mudis are Hungarian herding dogs. If you google Mudi you'll see lots of pics that look just like our Missy the Mudi.
At any rate, she is a sweet puppy, who loves Mommy most, but also loves giving Mac and Katie slobbery kisses. Dad was not consulted about the decision to bring her home (Teresa and the kids went to the shelter last September and rescued her when she was just 3 months old), but now Dad is quite fond of her, and wants to bring in some more Shepherds. It really is a good feeling rescuing a dog, providing a good, disciplined home, and having them become a loyal part of your family. We're fans of Cesar Millan and his concept of Pack Leader, but fortunately our biggest difficulty with Missy has only been trying to contain her boundless energy and enthusiasm. So, we're going to work towards training her to become a therapy or service dog.
